“Idle hands are the devils playground.”
Or so they say, anyway. Either way, being locked up in you apartment or house for weeks on end is a sure fire way to end up going crazy for most people. But don’t start pulling your hair out and talking to volley balls just yet.
Here are a few things that you can do to make it through the quarantine blues.
1. Writing
Have a book in your head? A blog you’ve been meaning to start? Well what better time than now to get started on it?
Blogs have made a tremendous comeback over the last few years. Especially now that more people are looking for alternative sources of information outside of the mainstream spheres. (This means people are looking for new things to read.) The best part is that blogging is easier than ever to do. Just go to WordPress.com, create a free account, and start writing. Boom. You have a blog. You can also use your social media accounts to boost it to the world for free.
Don’t know what to write?
Just write. Write about your life, past experiences, or things that you’re good at. There is literally an audience for everything.
2. Podcasting
Better at speaking than writing? Why not start your own podcast? There are tons of free podcast hosting services out there as well as some paid subscription ones as well.
The easiest that I have found (and the one that I use for The Rugged Legacy Podcast) is Anchor.fm
With Anchor, you can record, edit and publish your podcast right from your phone without having to download any additional software. It’s extremely user friendly and will handle the distribution of your podcast to all of the major platforms for you so that you can focus more on creating content than having to worry about what an RSS feed is.
3. Start a Garden
Whether you live in a house or an apartment, starting a garden is a great way to pass some time.
Learn how here.
You can find most of what you need at your local grocery store so you can pick them up while you’re out shopping for essentials.
Live in a house with a yard? Why not go big? I’ve got a 12 foot by 20 foot vegetable garden on the side of my house where I’m growing everything from basil to potatoes. Just grab some seeds at your local dollar store and get to work.
Apartment? No worries. Try your hand at an herb garden on the balcony or in the window.
4. Get Fit
There are plenty of other ways to pass the days while maintaining your sanity outside of spending the entire day watching Netflix.
You’ve got nothing but time on your hands right now. Why not spending getting better or being productive? You’ve got everything you need right there in your home to even start some body weight workout programs like this one or this one here.
Staying physically active is tantamount to having a lock on your own mental health.
The point is that you don’t drive yourself crazy staring out the window all day. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got some voices in my head to argue with.
